National Roster Internship Program

Facility Description

Music To Grow On has been a National Roster Internship site since March of 2006 and 13 students have completed their internship requirements. Students have completed their coursework at many different universities including Florida State University, University of the Pacific, Berklee College of Music, Loyola University at New Orleans, Eastern Michigan Univeristy, Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Illinois State University, and Utah State University.

Music To Grow On (MTGO) provides individual and group music therapy services to individuals with a vast scope of needs, ranging from mild to severe. Clients served have various diagnoses including Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, speech delay, traumatic brain injury, developmental delays, visual impairments, hearing impairments, genetic disorders, seizure disorders, and physical disorders. MTGO provides clinic, home, and school based services to accommodate the needs of individual and group members. Music To Grow On contracts with school districts, CA MENTOR NETWORK, Sacramento County Office of Education-Infant Development Program, and private pay clients. MTGO continues to pursue other avenues to services individuals with special needs in the Sacramento Area.

MTGO also provides consultations to Sacramento County Office of Education severely handicapped classrooms for students from elementary through young adult. These consultations provide suggestions on how to incorporate music in to daily activities to address each student’s Individual Education Plan goals. Interns will participate in the consultation process.

MTGO is located in an attractive office building near downtown Sacramento and less than ten minutes from California State University Sacramento. MTGO employs three, Board Certified Music Therapists, two hold additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy. Having multiple therapists on staff, allows the intern to observe different styles and approaches to a variety of clientele on a daily basis.
