Small Group Therapy Sessions

Adult Services

The larger group sessions are interactive providing opportunities for children to experience motor, vocalizing, instrument playing, and turn taking activities with peers both with and without special needs. Parents participate in the groups to assist the children to participate and interact with one another. These large groups occur on a less frequent basis. Participants can opt to split the cost between the members or one host and pay for the session.

MTGO partners with California MENTOR to provide Music Therapy to their consumers. Individuals choose what areas they would like to address during their sessions but include personal expression, communication, increased participation, interaction between others, and finding skill areas through music.

Mommy and Me Groups

The Mommy and Me Music Groups involve music activities that would include fingerplays (like Itsy Bitsy Spider), music and movement activities, singing, and instrument playing.  Activities will encourage interaction between all participants, turn taking, singing together, listening skills, following directions, motor planning, pre-academics (ie. colors, animals, shapes, letters, counting, etc.), and much more.  Activities will be adapted to the participants’ ages and needs.  The groups are open to typically developing children or those with special needs. Parents are encouraged to participate to continue the musical experience in the home and assist their child(ren) to participate and gain the most from the experience. (Minimum of 5 children, maximum of 10 children.)

"We are so blessed!  Codi has had Bessie as her Music Therapist since she was around 6 months old and she's 17 years old now and still sees Bessie once a week.  We used to push her up in front of Bessie in her infant seat!  Now the school sidtrict pays for it.  Music Therapy and Bessie has taught her more than any of her school teachers have ever taught her.  She has learned everything from Music Therapy.  I recommend if you are running into walls receiving it to not give up." Christa (parent of a current client)

"Lex loves her Music Therapy and I truly believe she learns more in that hour than she does all week.  She is very driven by music." Wendy (parent of a current client)

"The best part of music therapy was seeing the smiles on every person's face." (St. John's Retirement Village Elder)

"Ask not what music can do for you, but what you can do through music.  Enriching the lives of the elders at St. John's through music is a phenomenal experience." Nick Xiong, MT-BC
